Devil in the Deck is more than just John and Paul

It takes quite a few people to make this show.

Drew Letchworth is the director. He also did a lot of the writing and developement of the show. Drew is a Dramalog award winning actor who has been seen in films like The Right Stuff, Mrs. Doubtfire, and others. He works on stage and at corporate events. This show is as much his as anyone's.

Fred Anderson is the producer of this show here and in Scotland. Fred is a world renouned juggler and comedian. In addition to his work on Devil, Fred is the founder of Comedy on the square and number of shows here and at he Edinburg Fringe.

Paul Spiegel. Paul is our legal council and one of the initial funders of the new Climate Theater.

Spig and Costume Party. Spig is one of the initial funders of the new Climate
Theater and helps us out with costumes and support.

Jessica Heidt is the director of the Climate. She is too busy for me to even begin to write down all that she does so I will just say she does everything and leave it at that.

Glenn Michalletti is heading the production team for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe show. Glenn is an actor, a magician, and one of the best backstage staffers in the industry.

Guitarist, John Anaya plays live at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival's best magic show.

Devil in the Deck is a decadent world of delightful magic, breath-taking adventure, and torturous sleight-of-hand. Magician and storyteller, Paul Nathan, plays Jack Swindle, a con man cursed at birth by a bad tarot reading. Jack spends his life cheating at cards to cheat death and break the gypsy curse. Magic, adventure, and fate intertwine while John Anaya creates a soundscape that envelops you. Paul and John turn each moment into a modern day fairytale.

Paul Nathan (HBO, MTV, Star Trek Voyager) stars in the enthralling blend of magic and stories. Directed by Drew Letchworth (Mrs. Doubfire, the right stuff, Twisted). Music byJohn Anaya.

Devil in the Deck will be presented at the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This is your last chance to see it before it leaves. If you would like to help send us to the Fringe please click here and make a donation of any amount you like.

A note from the director:

cast of devil in the deck - the best magic show in edinburghSix years ago I watched Paul perform at a one night stand at the Shelton Theater in San Francisco. The show was an hour of card tricks and stories. There was no overarching narative, nothing to tie everything together, but it was engrosing, exciting, and magical.

I had worked with Paul and seen him on stage in a variety of settings but this was nothing like the other (more commercial) work that I had seen. The idea of using a video camera and projector to bring the audience in for a close up of a master card technician's hands was exciting to me.

Paul opened Climate Theater a year later with the intention of producing a full run of Devil in the Deck. I don't think either Paul or I had any idea how much of our selves we would put into this show. Paul is a great magician and a wonderful story teller but he had never acted before, nor had he ever written anything like this. The show ran for almost six months and every week there was something new in the show. Paul never stopped cleaning up the script, experimenting with the pacing, the words, his acting.

I am excited to have Devil in the Deck appear at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This show is perfect for the festival. I know you are going to enjoy it. I hope you find as much magic in the show as I first did.

Drew Letchworth.
